Pale malts keep any hop bitterness in check, and it's quite well balanced, though it seems like this is more of a fruited pale ale than a true IPA given its lack of hop pungency or really much hop flavour.there's nothing wrong with that, but those judging this as an IPA may find it lacking hopwise. Tropical bend is obvious, with tropical fruit juice heavy in this build alongside the titular passionfruit and some mandarin orange. Taste is simple, matching the straightforward suggestions of the aroma. TASTE & TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, soft, on the light side of medium-bodied, slightly overcarbonated, somewhat refreshing. Having grown up in Colorado drinking Oskar Blues, I found the Bourbon Barrel Ten Fidy put out by the North Carolina production brewery vastly inferior to that of the Colorado brewery, and swore off buying Oskar Blues while living on the East Coast thereafter. Finish was tart & dry & despite its relatively low ABV, I could not envision this as something with which I would want to fill a cooler. Even better was the development of loads of dense, sticky lacing that would require a jackhammer to remove at some point. I am not a huge fan of tart & sour beers, but this worked for me in an AIPA. Instead, the tartness caused a mild puckering of my lips that I actually found enjoyable. It had a definite citrusiness, but unlike anything in recent memory. The taste was moderately tart, initially, surprising me since I expected sweetness, based on the nose. Nose had a perfume-y citrusiness that I could not put my finger on, but knowing from the label what the adjunct was, I bought into it. Color was a slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). My gentleness was still bringing forth a LOT of foaming, so I went with the program, already in progress, to create a foamy, rocky mound of dense, bone-white head with quite good retention. Well, not dangerous, but prone to spillage & I try to avoid messes at all costs these days. It did mean, however, that it was going to be a nice, gentle Glug since such CANs CAN be dangerous. No problem since I CAN cover almost anything, having seen almost everything. so I gave it a few moments to settle, revealing another brimful craft CAN with nowhere for the tongue to go upon opening.
